SaTG are committed to making our productions as accessible for the local community as possible.

We are one of the few amateur companies in the country to offer a captioned performance and, thanks to sponsorship from The Evelyn Glennie Foundation and a grant from Huntingdon Town Council, we are proud to continue to offer this facility.

Theatre captioning is similar to television subtitling and gives deaf, deafened and hard of hearing theatregoers access to live performance.  It is also useful for those wanting to introduce children to Shakespeare as it helps reinforce what is being said.  Since 2014 we have provided a captioned evening during our full-scale summer productions to make Shakespeare’s plays accessible for the deaf and hard of hearing community in Huntingdon and Cambridgeshire. 

This year, the performance on Tuesday 2 July, sponsored by The Evelyn Glennie Foundation, will be captioned by Stagetext who provide captioning services to some of the country’s most famous theatres including the National Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe, and The Royal Exchange Manchester.

Evelyn Glennie is a double GRAMMY award winner and BAFTA nominee as well as an internationally acclaimed live performer who has been profoundly deaf since the age of 12.  The Evelyn Glennie Foundation brings her distinctive listening practices, her legacy and her vast career archive together to inspire active, receptive listening, helping to create a society where communication and social cohesion are improved by the act of listening.

The Huntingdon Town Council Community Grant Scheme was set up to help fund voluntary or community group projects which make the local community a better place in which to live, work or visit, benefitting those living in and around Huntingdon.
